Last week was my first week out here in Holyoke, CO. It went well, when I wanted to move to Colorado I thought it would be all mountains and woods and fabulous. Never did I imagine I would be 3 hours from everywhere in the middle of the plains in northeast CO. But I am... so I am going to make the best of the next 12 weeks!
Holyoke is a town of 2500 people. One stop light. Where I am living is known as "the apartments" because they are the only apartments in town. Everyone knows everything about everyone here. I am working at the nursing home here, I work with a girl who is my age who has lived here for about a year now and does not know anyone in town, so she suggested we hang out sometime. It isnt bad other than its proximity to anything- or well lack thereof. I am 3 hours from Denver, 3 from Fort Collins, 3.5 from Rocky Mountain National Park, 3 from Laramie (where Jeremy lives) BUT I am only 12 miles from Nebraska! haha.
Our trip out here was great! We stopped at Badlands National Park, Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower and we spent a few days with Jeremy's grandmother in Wyoming.
We arrived in Holyoke last Friday and spent that night getting everything in and trying to make this place as homey as possible. Saturday we went down to Denver to pick up Jeremy's car and have lunch with his brother. It was a great trip- but so far away for a day trip. We then spent Sunday at home watching movies all day because I did not get cable and internet until later in the week (the reason for the delay in my posting). Max has made himself right at home here. Jeremy's dog Daisy is staying with us too, and they are getting along great! They love to play and wrestle and be friends!
Yesterday it was so beautiful out that we decided to go for a hike because we are not sure how many more weekends we will have without snow in the mountains here! We went to Estes Park, CO to hike. We had to drive through an amazing canyon, Big Thompson Canyon, and I tried to take pictures with my camera for Lauren knowing she would love the scenery but also because its Thompson Canyon- but my camera died:( We hiked Lion's Gulch in Estes Park and it was great. It was a 3.5 hr drive but way worth every minute of the trip! I could not have imagined a better way to spend yesterday. Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of my unlce's death. And I know he would have been happy to see pictures from this hike. Hiking to me is a way to connect with nature. But also a way to appreciate all the beauty we have surrounding us. I agree with Lauren when said that hiking with a special someone is a great bonding and building experience. Ill be in touch soon!
Sorry for no pictures, my computer does not want to upload them into blogger for some reason. They are all on fb if ya wanna see them!
I love everything about this post. So glad you made it to CO safe. Please keep us updated! I'm so sad your camera died in my Canyon! I'm such a picture snob and love seeing pictures of you and Max. I'm glad that you got to hike yesterday and on such a special day. Nature has turned into a spiritual place for me in many ways. I'm sure you felt very connect to nature that day :)
